Our Emergency Management mission is to protect life and property and to prevent and/or reduce the negative impact of natural and man-made events. It is not only our duty to supervise, coordinate, and maintain the daily operations in our county but to also be ready to assist other agencies and adjacent counties if needed as stated in our mutual aid agreements.

We are able to provide a comprehensive and integrated program to prepare the whole community for major emergencies by educating our community and helping individual citizens accept personal responsibility within their own means and abilities to be constantly aware of risk and always prepared to take protective actions when necessary for their own safety as well as that of their families, friends and property.

Jasper County provides the CODE RED Alert System through our 911 Center and it is free of charge to the citizens.  This system generates emergency notifications based off severe weather events including updates from the National Weather Service. We strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of our CODE RED System.  Anyone that needs assistance signing up can call the Jasper County 911 Center at 706-468-4930, and one of the Communications Officers will be glad to help you.

Jasper County also has the weather sirens that will be activated by the Communications Officers at the 911 Center if conditions are favorable and necessary.

A tornado WATCH means a tornado is possible in your area.

  • When a Tornado WATCH is issued:
  • Listen to local radio and TV stations for further updates.
  • Read or listen to the CODE RED alerts.

A tornado WARNING means a tornado has been sighted and may be headed for your area. Go to safety immediately.

  • When a Tornado WARNING is Issued….
  • If you are inside, go to the safe place you picked to protect yourself from glass and other flying objects. The tornado may be approaching your area.
  • If you are outside, hurry to the basement of a nearby sturdy building or lie flat in a ditch or low-lying area.
  • If you are in a car or mobile home, get out immediately and head for safety (as above).

 After the Tornado Passes:

  • Watch out for fallen power lines and stay out of the damaged area.
  • Listen to the radio for information and instructions.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect your surroundings for damage. Do not use candles at any time.
